In October I was delighted to speak about my books at an event looking at
how art and writing can be inspired by fish and the sea. This was one of
many events and exhibitions organised in Hull by the Critical Fish Trail. For
more than 30 years, this celebration of the city’s maritime and fishing heritage
has provided an opportunity for writers and artists to showcase their work.

I mainly focused on The Salt Roads, telling the stories of Shetlands
relationship with the sea and highlighting how the fishing industry had created
the culture that continues to characterise Shetland to this day. I provided
some background to my book and did a couple of my favourite readings.
